Dr. Katherine Economos

Dr. Katherine Economos is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, gynecologic oncology, and hospice and palliative medicine. She served as Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital for 27 years while holding the academic title of Clinical Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Weill Cornell Medical College. She then decided to change the core nature of her practice to general and survivorship gynecology in the office setting. Given her extensive oncology background, Dr. Economos is particularly interested in providing gynecologic care to women who have survived or are currently being treated for cancer, women who have dysplasia of the cervix, vagina, vulva, or anus, and those who need or have had genetic testing and need surveillance for familial cancer syndromes.  However, Dr. Economos also concurrently treats most other gynecologic conditions.

Dr. Economos has served as President of the Brooklyn Gynecological Society (the longest continuously active gynecologic society in the U.S., founded in 1890).  Since beginning her career in 1993, she has been the recipient of numerous awards for her dedication to women’s healthcare and to resident physician education, including the American Cancer Society’s Brooklyn Women’s Physician of the Year for Excellence in Healthcare and the National Faculty CREOG Award for Excellence in Resident Education, respectively.

Dr. Economos is active in women’s cancer awareness campaigns, lecturing and talking to the community on women’s health issues.  She is beloved by her patients for her unassuming but direct style, her insistence on patient education, and her unceasing vigilance of her patients’ health.
